Over the past few years, we have seen that our increasingly variable weather is often accompanied by heavy rainfall intensity. There is a steady increase in the proportion of paved and built-up areas which, lacking water retention capacity, either retain rainfall on the surface due to narrow channel cross-sections or cause flooding by entering local watercourses and overloading them. During heavy showers and thunderstorms, rainfall in excess of the capacity of existing stormwater drainage systems, or longer or shorter periods without natural rainfall replenishment, raise the need for conscious management of stormwater. In the construction of the IKEA store in Soroksár, due to the limited capacity of the receiving natural watercourse, special care was taken to store rainwater and Pureco Ltd. was chosen to implement a cost-effective stormwater management system. A corrugated steel structure tank system is used for stormwater storage, which provides an efficient solution for the quantitative and qualitative management of rainwater run-off. Corrugated steel structures are cost-effective systems. In Soroksar, we have installed a total volume of 300 m3 of 2000 mm diameter hot-dip galvanised steel rainwater storage tanks with the necessary waterproofing with internal and external waterproofing straps, pipe connections and diving holes, so that heavy rainfall caused by extreme weather does not cause disruption and damage to the site, and the large quantities of rainwater stored provide the opportunity to maintain the green area.
